5 x 7, graphite and watercolor crayon
I went to a conference in Monterey, CA for work, and combined the trip with a visit to my aunt and uncle’s north of San Francisco. It was great to get out of cold snowy Vermont for a few days.
The iconic Golden Gate Bridge. I found it more impressive at night, when the lighting made me think of ancient Egyptian architecture. (I might have been jet lagged).
San Francisco and the Bay
Spent a wonderful afternoon in Muir Woods. The photos don’t do justice to these majestic trees. The atmosphere is awe-inspiring.
Here’s an idea of the scale.
The bark, roots, everything about these trees are fascinating.
Monterey was gorgeous. Wish I’d had more time to get out on the beach, but I was there for work. The Aquarium was well-designed and very interesting.
A great trip, and while I was gone, spring has appeared in Vermont!
The Dog River Cat House is back in business! On Valentine's Day, we brought Theadora and Amadeus home from the Central Vermont Humane Society.
Theadora-she has a very interesting 'line' down the middle of her face
Amadeus. I'm discovering how hard it is to get a good picture of an all black cat!
They made themselves at home right away and they have a lot of youthful energy, as they're both about two years old. Not related, they bonded at the shelter and we are glad to have a pair who get along so well. I'm not letting them down in the studio yet, as they are curious and energetic and Theadora tends to taste things she shouldn't. That won't stop them from providing inspiration, though. I finished these three canvases for the downstairs bathroom recently, so the cats can help me on ideas for a new canvas for a friend.
Here's something I made with the same techniques I've been using on 5×7 watercolor paper only using Derwent's Inktense Blocks instead of watercolor crayons. My intent is to place a quote on here, eventually, but I've been more inspired to do the art and leave the quote for later. I've got quite a collection of 5×7 pieces waiting for quotes. Maybe I'll finish some up for gifts. Maybe…
